The Rochester Institute of Technology’s Summer Math Applications in Science with Hands-on Experience for Girls has been recognized by the Finger Lakes STEM Hub as an exemplary K-12 program in science, technology, engineering and math.
Pearl sent Vice President of Operations, Linda Gillette, and Jennifer Gillette, Global Marketing Coordinator at Pearl and a 2013 alum of the college, to the event for a company presentation day. While there, Linda and Jennifer explained how math and science applied to the plastics industry and manufacturing by showing the girls various punch profiles and slitting angles.
Linda Gillette is vice president of Pearl Technologies Inc., a Savannah, N.Y., supplier of components used alongside film extrusion, such as punches, perforators, gusset boards, bubble guides and bubble cages.
Pearl began its relationship with RIT in 2011, when the company hired its first co-op student, and that effort continues. Pearl also has donated machinery and equipment to the school, such as a five-punch demonstration kit and a micro-perforation unit that can punch pin-sized holes in plastic film.
Pearl Technologies introduced seven new products for blown film processors at the show.
